Eat healthy while you travel

One of the things I find most difficult when exploring is to eat healthy while you travel. A balanced nutritional diet is fairly important to keep your energy levels up and brain active.

The problem wasn’t always the cost of buying the food, other things like storing fresh food and sourcing it in some places could prevent me from making better food choices. Continue reading Eat healthy while you travel

The nightmare journey to the dream wedding

Today is the main reason for my trip to Rio. My good friend Sabrina is getting married to her other half, Mozart. It will be a dream wedding.

The day starts pretty well, although I am still in the Z Bra hostel which is a bit too dimly lit for my liking.

I sort out a few last minute bits and bobs and decide it is time to get ready for the big event. I’ve already got all my clothes ready including my suit. So now all I need to do is get a taxi organised. I go for a few drinks in the hostel bar and ask reception if they can sort out the taxi for me. They agree to help with this.

The taxi arrives giving me plenty of time to reach the ceremony which is due to start at 9pm.  Traffic in Rio is always a nightmare, so we have to take a few detours to get to the motorway.  We finally do, but to my horror, what looks like the one and only exit to get on the hill heading to the venue has been blocked off with bollards.

Sabrina and Moa's Wedding in Rio de JaneiroWe drive for another 10 to 15 minutes in search of another option. Finally the taxi driver decides to stop and ask if there is another way to get there.  Luckily there is. We make it there with about 20 minutes to spare. I had been panicking that I was going to miss the start of Sabrina and Mozart’s wedding. I am finally here and the location is amazing. Lit by small candles in the trees, a walkway to the main house. And down below in a garden there’s the altar with a red carpet leading to it between rows of white seating. The edges of the carpet have white rose petals sprinkled along them.

The ceremony is in Brazilian Portuguese, which I don’t understand. But it sounds romantic with the musical background. The party is a great success with fantastic food and plenty to drink. Eventually I jump in a cab at 2am to head back to the hostel to recover. It’s been a day to remember.
